Panoramic Photography Requirements

Many of our customers own digital point and shoot cameras.   JDF Unlimited rents our equipment for a very reasonable fee, however if you already own a high quality digital camera that accepts additional lenses it may be possible to take the panoramic photos from your camera directly.

It's All About The Lens

Any 3 megapixel camera or above can take high enough resolution photos to be usable for a panorama.  The difference between lenses can mean the difference of a very "zoomed in" or  floor to ceiling immersive panorama.  A wide angle lens with a multiplier of .5x or less is needed to get basic panoramic ability with some vertical movement.   With a .25x "fisheye" lens you can take nearly 180 degree photos.

Steady She Goes

Using a tripod to line up your adjacent shots is imperative for high quality results.  You can sometimes substitute and office chair and slowly turn while taking photos, though we don't recommend it.  Our software can accomodate variations of a few degrees, but the more your photos bobble up and down the less viewing angle we can support.  A good quality travel tripod is the Titan II by Quantaray, available at most Kitz/Ritz Camera stores.

Sending Us Your Panoramic Photo Files

Photos will range from 900KB to over 5,000KB each depending on the camera used and selected quality.  There may be up to 12 photos per room.   This is a large amount of information to send us.  Please name your files efficiently, such as "Smith_LivingRoom_1.jpg".  We currently support JPG/TIF/GIF/BMP/PNG formats.
